Designing and fabricating robots is something we love to do, but bringing them to life is so next level!
We’re like a state-of-the-art robot factory, over here at SCPS! We make the jobs of our agency and production company clients very easy by using our streamlined design, fabrication, and pre-visualization techniques, and delivering to them a better product in fast, cost-effective ways.
Luckily for our clients, we have a collection of puppeteerable robot armatures available to start with. All we have to do is design the exterior to be constructed over the existing armature.
This method cuts down production time and allows for a six-foot robot, like this one we created for a GEICO commercial, to be completed in just a couple weeks utilizing several fabrication techniques like welding, 3D printing, model making, and painting.
Although it’s super cool to look at, the final result alone reveals only a small spark of the robot’s character. Its true personality comes to life through its movements and gestures, all of which are generated by our talented puppeteers.
The puppeteers repeatedly rehearse action sequences with the robot in order to achieve the perfect motions that will accurately portray its disposition. After the commercial is shot, the puppet rods and puppeteers are edited out and the final result displays a robot who seems very much “alive”. Check it out.
